TrafiCam - The First Integrated Video Sensor

TrafiCam is essentially a concept that combines a CMOS sensor and video detection technology in one. It is primarily used for stop bar and advance detection at signalized intersections. This small sensor succeeds to detect vehicles at traffic lights better, more discretely and more economically than other presence detectors as radar, infrared or loops.

Traficon was the first company to launch such a product in 2003, and although the original TrafiCam has evolved somewhat over the years, the ethos surrounding it remains as it was when it first came to market: to combine the benefits of video detection with the benefits of sensor technology in one easy-to-use, compact box.

The basic functionality of TrafiCam is simple and straightforward: “a loop replacing sensor for vehicle presence detection at intersections”.

Direct visual verification
Using video images, TrafiCam allows exact positioning and verification of the vehicle presence detection zones.

Multiple & direction sensitive vehicle detection zones
TrafiCam detects vehicles, day and night, on up to eight zones. This allows you to distinct presence detection over different lanes. TrafiCam has direction-sensitive detection zones indicating presence of vehicles moving in a specific direction.

Easy installation and fast configuration
TrafiCam is easy to install. You can simply mount it on the existing infrastructure. Via a portable computer with pre-installed Traficon software, you can set-up your sensor. A menu-driven set-up procedure allows you to add, modify or delete detection zones in an extreme user-friendly way. You can store different configurations of a TrafiCam and upgrade new firmware to the TrafiCam.

TrafiCam x-stream Intelligent Camera for Vehicle Presence Detection including MPEG-4 streaming video

TrafiCam x-stream is an integrated camera and detector offering vehicle presence detection and MPEG-4 image compression.

Vehicle Presence Detection
This intelligent system provides detection and monitoring of moving and stationary vehicles at signalized intersections. Via detection outputs, vehicle presence information is transmitted to the traffic controller so that signal timing can be adjusted dynamically, resulting in reduced waiting time, improved traffic flow and less pollution.

IP-Addressable Device
TrafiCam x-stream is an IP-addressable video detection camera. Streaming video at full frame rate is available via Ethernet for system and traffic monitoring. Users can configure, view and control the system both on-site and remotely.

The system setup is quick-and-easy: a user-friendly PC tool allows connecting to all TrafiCam x-stream devices on the network. A camera image is available for accurate and fast positioning of the presence detection zones. Making the system operational is done in only a few minutes.

Direct Loop Replacement
TrafiCam x-stream is a cost-effective and reliable solution that offers all benefits of video detection. This is an above-ground system without expensive installation and maintenance costs, typical for traditional inductive loops.

Collect-R Data Collection Sensor

TrafiCam Collect-R is a cost-effective solution to gather traffic data, monitor traffic flow and emulate or simulate loops on highways and inter-urban roads. It can be used for temporary or permanent applications. Plus, its low power consumption is suitable for a stand-alone solar powered installation.

Traffic Data Collection
TrafiCam Collect-R provides all relevant traffic data such as volume, speed, occupancy and classification on multiple lanes, day and night and in all weather conditions. Integrated data is stored in the sensor and can be transferred via an open protocol SDK, the Traficon Management System or an offline download tool. Downloading these data to a PC can be done locally or remotely.

Flow Monitoring
TrafiCam Collect-R monitors the traffic flow. Via the flow speed and the zone occupancy, the sensor automatically distinguishes 5 levels of service: normal, dense, delayed, congested and stop-and-go.

Warnings can be generated on the outputs for each of these service levels, or can be transmitted to the Traffic Management Software. Together with the traffic alarm pictures can be sent for visual verification.

TrafiCam Collect-R can also be used to triggering third party systems such as flash lights, barriers, CCD cameras and VMS panels when the traffic flow exceeds a certain predefined level.

Loop Simulation & Loop Emulation
TrafiCam Collect-R is also used to simulate or emulate single or double loops. Physical inductive loops are simply replaced by ‘virtual loops’. Vehicles are detected by the sensor when they cross these virtual loops. The outputs of the TrafiCam Collect-R can be connected to a controller board to ensure predefined actions, similar to the single and/or double loops.

Better Pedestrian Protection
The main goal of TrafiCam C-Walk is to improve pedestrian protection as the pedestrian crosses the street (e.g. at zebra crossing near schools). By detecting crossing pedestrians and, at the same time, by managing and controlling traffic lights more dynamically, this intelligent sensor also reduces unnecessary delays to motorists.

Collect-R x-stream Data Collection Sensor incl. Streaming Video

Collect-R x-stream is a cost effective solution for traffic data collection, queue detection and traffic flow monitoring on highways and inter-urban roads. Collect-R x-stream integrates both CMOS sensor and detector in a compact, stylish housing. It is a network based, IP addressable detector including on-board MPEG-4 compression for high quality streaming video.

Traffic Data Collection
Collect-R x-stream provides all relevant traffic data such as volume, speed, occupancy, gaptime, headway and classification on multiple lanes, day and night and in all weather conditions.

Depending on sensor positioning (overhead/side-fired) this video sensor can cover up to four lanes. Data is provided for each lane and each vehicle class.

Integrated data is stored in the sensor and can easily be transferred via an open protocol SDK (Traficon Management System) or an off-line download tool. Downloading this data to a PC can be done locally or remotely over a TCP/IP connection. This transmission of data can be done at predefined times or on command of the operator.

Flow Monitoring and Queue Detection
Collect-R x-stream monitors the traffic flow in real-time. Via the flow speed and the zone occupancy, the sensor automatically distinguishes between 5 levels of service: normal, dense, delayed, congested and stop-and-go traffic.

Alarms can be generated for each of these service levels and can be transmitted to the Traffic Management System.
Together with the traffic alarm an image can be sent for visual verification.
